Cass was born in London in 1973 and exposed to a wide variety of music from an early age, much through his own devices. The large portion of pocket money from a young age was spent on music, and whilst at University the majority of his student loan can be traced to record stores in the back streets of London and Essex. This allocation of tertiary education intended funds has proven a shrewd choice by a DJ whose love for music is evident every time he performs.
Although born in London, it wasn't until he was living in Sydney that he was given his first real break. A local promoter, who was in charge of Sydney's biggest New Years Eve events at the time, gave Cass a spot on the bill alongside the likes of Danny Howells, Paul Oakenfold and Slam. Only young, but not to be outdone, Cass was often the talk of the event come January 1.
Playing his own unique sound, his inspired randomness encompasses the best from driving atmospheric techno, progressive house, through to dirty break laden, tripped out house. His sets are skillfully varied, and over the past decade he has championed his sound throughout Australia, Asia, South America, North America and Europe to a worldwide audience playing events at clubs such as Cream, Spundae and Twilo.
Not only a top DJ, Cass' production work has been equally forward thinking. With early production partner Slide whom he met whilst label managing UK label Flying Rhino records he found an able ally, forming a duo that has got feet moving on dance floors countless times. The duo's biggest hit 'Perception' which featured on Sasha's Ibiza global underground, set the ball rolling and follow ups 'Opera' and 'Diablo' further enhanced the reputation of Cass as a magician in the studio. Having collaborated over the years with the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Sean Cusick, Jimmy Van M, Lee Burridge, Satoshi Tomiie, Hernan Cattaneo, Tom Mangan, Andy Page and more, Cass is regarded as highly for his production skills as those he displays behind the decks.
However, not satisfied with just being a forward thinking DJ and producer, Cass also began his work in label management with UK label Flying Rhino records. Once he had proved himself at Flying Rhino he began his own label with Lee Burridge and Pete Martin (Slide); Fire Recordings. Under his guidance the label quickly began to gain international respect. Not afraid to sign tunes that were different from the mainstream Fire quickly became recognised as a great source of quality underground sounds. Cass & Slides' debut long player 'Burning The Candle At Both Ends', which was released in April 2002 through Fire, had heads turning in all four quarters as it combined the usual inspired Cass randomness with collaborations from Danny Tenaglia, Jason Donovan and Meat Katie. Cass then left the Fire station in the summer of 2002 to establish his new label Sabotage, which has as its first release, his new single 'Mind Rewind', out in Jan 2003.
