Tim SkinnerTim Skinner’s career as a DJ and producer is as much about fortuitous timing as it is about prodigious talent. Consider his role in this past year’s Delta Heavy Tour. Tim was the road manager in support of the largest DJ tour of its kind to ever hit America, featuring headliners Sasha, John Digweed and Jimmy Van M. But when Jimmy fell ill for a month during the tour Tim was called to into action at the frontlines to fill the opening slot each night. While unhappy about having to miss the shows, Jimmy was pleased that Tim was there to step in to take his place. 'Tim is an awesome DJ,' says Jimmy. 'He's been at it for a long time and has a lot of integrity and credibility. I felt really comfortable with him doing those dates for me. I think I would have been a lot more stressed out if he hadn't been there.' Tim drew much fanfare and critical acclaim for his superb play during the tour. So impressed with Tim’s skills and professionalism, John Digweed asked him to perform warm up duties for him again this year on Moby’s Area 2 Tour.

Tim’s star is on the rise and while he was happily in the right place at the right time, getting there was also about a lot of hard work. He started early, landing a job at Murmur Records at the tender age of 10 - a position he held all through high school. It was at this shop in which Tim was first exposed to acid house and other electronic fare in the late 80’s. In the mid to late 90’s Tim was an integral part of the local club scene, holding residencies at several venues in the Orlando area as well as working at the Underground Record Source for six years - the area’s premier underground record shop during that time.

Fast forward to today and Tim has established himself as a very versatile, solid DJ within the underground community. He has also earned quite a reputation as a producer through his releases on his Grounded Music label, along with partner Barry Robb, as well as a handful of remixes for others labels throughout the globe. A position with the prestigious Balance Promote Group maintaining its elite promotional record pool occupies his weekdays and with his schedule showing signs of getting even busier, Tim is hard at it—and couldn’t be happier.
